This version of Aerie finally adds the Zope Revolver, as well as bringing OsoaWeek and Get All Obliviana up to date. Aerie Obliviana is a little over five months old now, and I am still very happy with the format--I think it's gonna last. See, over the past four years, I have developed a number of different formats for presenting Obliviana content, and until Aerie, they have all been unacceptable to me. So I am thrilled to finally have a web-based format that I am fully pleased with. On Wednesday, September 22, 1999 (11 days ago), I had a vision and I came up with the idea for the "New Obliviana Foundation". For years I had been seeking a "Keystone Idea" to bring all of the multifarious ideas in Obliviana together, and with the "New Obliviana Foundation", I am confident that I have arrived at the "Keystone Idea". (See Get All Obliviana 2, at the very end--just a few clicks away from here!) My original vision for Aerie Obliviana was for it to be the "Keystone Idea". That is, it was to be the thing that brings all of Obliviana together. So when answering the question "What is Obliviana?", I could answer "It's a book." But now that I have a new "Keystone Idea", the role of Aerie has changed, but not all that much. One aspect of Aerie that I had envisioned has yet to be implemented--the idea of a "Wander" Revolver which would link the content of Aerie together in a way that would be an alternative the the strict hierachical organization in Aerie. I have still not arrived at a specific angle for this "Wandering System", but in developing it, a "world-based" system was one of my ideas. Little World of Racetracks (LWOR) is at the heart of the New Obliviana Foundation. At one time, I considered using LWOR as the basis of the Wandering system. In this way, LWOR would be "inside" of Aerie. But with the New Obliviana Foundation, Aerie is "inside" LWOR. I still intend to implement the Wandering System in Aerie, but it will not be based on LWOR. In the next few months, I think that I will work out both the specifics of the New Obliviana Foundation, and the way that Aerie fits into it. In the Intro to Aerie v2, I mentioned the ad I placed in Wired Magazine, and the hopes I had that it would help to develop an audience for Obliviana. Well, the ad didn't do much of anything in this regard. So Obliviana still doesn't have an audience to speak of. But I am not discouraged. Obliviana is in good shape, and I have high hopes that Obliviana will gain an audience in the next year. Well, that's about it for now. There's a huge amount of great stuff for you to check out in Aerie, so go on and start/continue exploring! Get all Obliviana! -------> ------------------- ----------- -------- -- ----- |
