Good afternoon! Frank Edward Nora here, reporting on the latest and greatest news from Obliviana!

Wow--looks like a thunderstorm is brewing outside--I better get this issue sent out before there's a power failure or something!

GAME NEWS
-----------

RULES UPDATED!

The rules to Xappenshard Craze (see link at the Xappenshard Craze Main Page) have been updated, to be more clear and complete.

DAILY WINNERS!

[15] Tue 9/1/98--SylphidMorning (Fonosta 15)
[16] Wed 9/2/98--LittleRebel (Fonosta 14)
[17] Thu 9/3/98--WatchfulCondor (Fonosta 6)
[18] Fri 9/4/98--WatchfulCondor (Fonosta 6)
[19] Sat 9/5/98--WatchfulCondor (Fonosta 6)
[20] Sun 9/6/98--DashingPresto (Fonosta 19)
[21] Mon 9/71/98--ForestWave (Fonosta 8)

Comment: As you can see, WatchfulCondor won three times in a row, after also being Daily Winner 14. The way I draw the Daily Winner is to shuffle a deck of cards, with each Fonosta's name written on one card. I thoroughly shuffle the deck and then choose. The chance of WatchfulCondor winning three times in a row like that is approximately 8800-to-1. What is disturbing about this whole event is that WatchfulCondor is Fonosta 6, so winning three times implies "666", the evil "number of the beast". I am very numerological in my thinking, and I did develop a theory relating to 666--specifically--that it refers to a period of time, rather than to an "antichrist". In this, my Daily Winner drawings may be responding to supernatural events. Remember, 1998 does equal 666x3! Well, anyway, I breathed a sigh of relief when I drew DashingPresto as #20--if I had drawn WatchfulCondor again, I think I would have flipped out. But I never redo the Daily Winner--the card that comes up is the winner, no matter what!

XAPPENS SOLVED

Xappen 8 has been solved by DeepNotice (Fonosta 2). The answer is "octillion". DeepNotice opened mall store A105 and found--INSTANT FAME!

Xappen 5 remains unsolved. Xappen 7 will not be released until Xappen 5 is solved.Every Daily Winner gets two odd-numbered Xappenshards, which have, up to now, solely been from Xappen 5.

NEW FONOSTAS

There was one new Fonosta this week--FoamBlazer (Fonosta 24). As well, one person joined the Obliviana Mailing List and has not yet Established a Fonosta.

CARNE'S MOISTURE DETECTION FRIEND
Episode Seven
-----------

CARNE: In 1982 there was a videogame called "Moon Patrol". My Moisture Detection Friend could play that game for hours and hours. He didn't care. If he had to be somewhere, meet someone. Nothing.

PACER: Yeah, I went on a moon patrol once.

CARNE: You liked the game too?

PACER: No, I mean a REAL moon patrol. I went with a friend of mine, who's in the Moon Brigade. You know those UFO's they found in Arizona or something? They figured out how to make 'em. Anyone can go to the moon. You just have to know the right people.

CARNE: So Pacer, what is the moon like? What's it like to actually BE there?

PACER: Hold on a minute. Um... excuse me! Yeah, can I get some more water here, please? Thank you. Geez, this place has terrible service.

CARNE: Yeah, it's not too good. So now, what were you saying about the moon?

PACER: I didn't get to walk around, I just stayed in the UFO. And the Earth, it looks like someone painted it up there. It looks fake, y'know?

CARNE: So, this was a dream?

PACER: Yeah. So?

CARNE: So why'd you say it was real?

PACER: Dreams are real. They're part of reality. You experience them in a similar way to the way you experience life in the waking world. Why not?

CARNE: I think this conversation we're having is a dream. It's certainly not up to par with other conversations we've had!
