This week is a vacation from work, and I did a few cool Stormjaunts, going to New York State and Baltimore. I am still in the midst of this latest Obliviana "crisis". The problem involves the integration of 209 and Bluffcosm, with the backdrop of the severely limited resources I have for Obliviana right now. See, everything was going well, with the launch of the new Obliviana and stuff. But I realized that I can't accept Bluffcosm in a severely diminished role. Bluffcosm is what I love, "The New Computerized Audio Entertainment". The whole 209 thing I see as a necessity, but I do not have the same "love" for it. To explain further, the idea of pursuing the 209 thing, getting people into it, with the audio angle, is something I don't "feel" like doing. I know that 209 is the Keystone... but I feel that it HAS to be integrated into Bluffcosm in order for it to "feel right". In terms of this integration, the main problem is that I don't have much in terms of time or money to invest in Obliviana right now. And no matter what scenario I might look at: 209 alone, Bluffcosm alone, an integration of the two... all of these seem to be very difficult roads to travel toward success. Now I am at a point where I am perhaps looking for yet ANOTHER keystone... an idea that would... bring success... to the integration of 209 and Bluffcosm... But as far as I can see... to succeed with this whole "The New Computerized Audio Entertainment", I'd need a heck of a lot more resources. So, I seem to be stuck, at the moment. But I need to figure out some kind of plan to move forward... even if it means moving forward very slowly. Sun 8/26/01 * 9:27 PM Went on another journey today. I finally found the "Dragon Magazine Archive", which I've been looking for for about a year now. I didn't want to order it off the Internet... I wanted to find it in a store... and today I did... in a mall I've never been to before... the Wayne Hills Mall... it was amazing. I also passed by the Renaissance Fair in New York. It was cool to just pass it by... Anyway, also today I got some new ideas about combining 209 and Bluffcosm. So I'm gonna be working on these new ideas. Get all Obliviana. ------------------- SUPERIOR REVIEW ----------- SUPERIOR 369 Say to Maye, you love her hair. Say to Maye, trouble in the air. Say to Maye, I am your lover powerful. Now... let me talk frankly here... Bluffcosm is where my heart is... I know that Obliviana is what I should be doing, but Bluffcosm is what I love. But the new Obliviana is the Keystone Idea, it is what I have been after all these years. And I am still distracted by the "Bluffcosm question"... that is, how to get an audience for Bluffcosm. And, I am upset that Severe Repair has receded so far into the background. The current plan is something like, listening to Blufftoons is a Dashic Deed, with Stormjaunt Scrolls made specifically for listening to Bluffcosm... So even now, when I actually HAVE the Keystone Idea, I am still all screwed up. My time is so limited. And there is so much I want to do. I need to get behind a single idea. And I am close to that... but there is still a divide between Obliviana and Bluffcosm. I suppose that the answer could be to combine Obliviana and Bluffcosm... basically, Obliviana would also be audio-based. What about a show, of a set length, containing stuff from "all over" Obliviana"? Like, Stormjaunting stuff, and Blufftoons, and Severe Repair audiobook stuff... interesting idea... Tue 8/21/01 * 2:37 AM Went on a cool 11-hour Stormjaunt today... and I did some thinking about the whole Obliviana/Bluffcosm situation. Basically, I feel very strongly that I should pursue the computerized audio entertainment thing. And I also feel strongly about 209! And I think I'm gonna hafta combine the two. I realized that Stormjaunting is a fantastic way to get people into making cool recordings, and sharing them. Now, the problem is that my resources are limited... and my plans are very ambitious, and progress has been SLOW. I read a quote from Peter Jackson, director of the upcoming "Lord of the Rings" trilogy: "One job at a time, every job a success." 10:36 PM Well, here I am, at another impasse of sorts in Obliviana. My plan... the "keystone"... focus on 209... but this conflicts with my whole computerized audio entertainment angle. Or to be more specific, with the very sketchy resources I have, it is hard to focus on both Obliviana and Bluffcosm... and while it does seem possible to combine the two, it is very difficult, since I don't have the resources to do even a part of one of them. So... what am I gonna do? Well, I have to follow my heart, I think... at this point, Obliviana is just a hobby... very far from any chance of "success"... To focus solely on the 209 angle, and suspend Bluffcosm, is not acceptable to me. I don't really "like" the 209 thing, in terms of having an occult idea and telling people about it. It's kind of a drag. On the other hand, I really do love Bluffcosm, and I am very enthusiastic about its potential. When I arrived at the "209 realization" about a month ago, it was a bittersweet moment. I realized that I had finally discovered the "keystone idea", but I also realized that it's not something that I am all that enthusiastic about. So I guess it should come as no surprise that I am where I am right now. Even writing this... I wonder who's ever gonna be reading it... who cares about my personal struggle here? It's pretty depressing. What about the idea that I SHOULD move forward with the 209 angle? Well, I am gonna move forward with it, but I need it to be a part of Bluffcosm, rather than the other way around. If I choose to suspend Bluffcosm and move full ahead with 209, there is a chance that it will have some success. But, if I decide to pursue the computerized audio entertainment angle, it will be far harder to succeed, at least that's the way it looks from here. Yeah. So, it's like, um... hot. So I've decided to create something called "Obliviana Handbook", which will be the main reference for Obliviana. And this does bring up the issue of how to proceed with Obliviana. I need to get the ball rolling. I am bad at promotion... therefore I must get good at it! Obliviana Super Occult Amusement... obliviana.com... gotta promote... gotta promote! And I have made a decision about the "other stuff" in Osoa, like Bluffcosm, Severe Repair, etc. I will continue with all this stuff, but it will be secondary to Obliviana. So, for example, Bluffcosm will continue, but at a lower level of activity. Now, about terminology. "Obliviana" refers to the whole 209 / Stormjaunting thing. "Osoa" or "Obliviana Super Occult Amusement" refers to the overall project, including everything, like Zope, Bluffcosm, etc. OK...? This is to avoid confusion, since I used to use "Obliviana" for what I am now calling "Osoa"... Thu 8/9/01 * 8:31 PM I did some Stormjaunting today... Storm is still on, in fact. This morning, I had an experience which was quite interesting. My wife, Denice, dropped me off at the train station, but I missed one train, and it was a half-hour to the next one. So I sat there, with no cigars to smoke... and I was feeling a little glum... so I said, why not go on a Stormjaunt! So I use a Stormjaunt Scroll, and got the 'Jaunt going! I did some Neverbeen, some Pebbleswitch, some Deepnotice... alotta cool Dashic Deeds... and I had a great time! And this is certainly a central aspect of Obliviana... IT'S FUN. Damn fun. It can take a crummy situation and make it exciting and enjoyable. Mon 8/13/01 * 11:10 PM My Stormjaunting of the past 2 weeks has produced some amazing results. I'm gonna be writing about my experiences in a feature called "A Stormjaunter's Journal", which will premiere on Obliviana.com very soon. I'm also gonna be doing a "History of Obliviana". I'll be reproducing the first published works about Obliviana: "Steering Zonebook Thozien" (October 1987) and "Hollow Fantasia" (February 1988). In these works, the basics of the Obliviana system were clearly established (though it wasn't called Obliviana back then). 1987 was the year that I created the Obliviana System... 14 years ago! And, on a different subject, I have been working on Bluffcosm again, and it looks like there will indeed be an August 2001 Wave of Blufftoons... And, I just want to mention for the record that when I brought the hit counter back into the main Obliviana.com page, on Saturday, August 4, 2001, the hits were at 2729. It says hits since 1/1/99... pathetic, I know. I think the counter might have gotten screwed up at some point, and there may have been more hits, but not all that much more. How long till I double it? How long till 5458? Hopefully not another 30 months! Let's go! Oh, I also want to mention the idea of different Stormjaunt Scroll, each of which has a Fonosta Glyph. All the Glyph of all the Stormjaunts you go on are entered into Your Fonosta Device... a single graphic that details your accomplishments in Obliviana. This is a core concept in Obliviana, but it will be perhaps awhile before I can fully implement it. Just wanted to mention it. Maybe I should list the hits on the site in each issue of OsoaWeek? Yeah... let's see... right now it's at 2779... 50 hits! Cool! Get all Obliviana. ------------------- SUPERIOR REVIEW ----------- SUPERIOR 367 One o'clock two fine days. Hi, they wear bikinis. So I got it done, last weekend, I got Obliviana Phase Two going. I sent out an email, to about 130 people, announcing the new Obliviana. Random notes: each week, I add 42 to the Tarb. A Tarb is a unit of time I made up, which is 4 hours long. The Tarb listed in the masthead is the number of Tarbs that have passed since 2:00 AM, July 28, 1994, when OsoaWeek 001 was published. Anyway, I double checked last week's Tarb in my "Tarb Caluculator" spreadsheet, and indeed, it was correct. Also, I want to talk about the first OsoaWeek of Obliviana Phase 2 being 365, the same as the number of days in a year. Well, it's pretty simple... 7 years have as many weeks as one year has days... 7 years... Well, I am now on the new course. 209 and Stormjaunting and all that. I have had minimal response as of yet, but then, I'm just getting started. Unlike past situations in Obliviana, I know that I can get people into Obliviana now. It's just a matter of effort. In other words, the structure of Obliviana is correct now, whereas in the past it has been severely flawed. I am a little bit "drifting", trying to plan out the next steps of Obliviana. I have gone on 2 Stormjaunts so far in Phase Two, with some quite impressive results... ever more "evidence" that Obliviana is a valid supernatural phenomenon. Because, some stuff in Obliviana is the way the the Stormjaunter does things and perceives things... but other stuff is stuff that happens TO the Stormjaunter. For example, on Monday, I met a guy I know from a place I worked last year, at random at the World Financial Center. It was a chance meeting... a day after doing some strong 'Jaunting. And, I have noticed in the past that the day after a powerful Stormjaunt, there is a lot of residual "energy". Another thing that happened, last night, was that the bus I take home inexplicably took a weird little detour... now, something like this would not normally seem "supernatural", but I was Stormjaunting at the time. And it is another example of something happening TO me as opposed to something that I am in control of. In other words, if Stormjaunting does indeed CAUSE coincidences and weird events and stuff, then it is absolutely an unexplained phenomenon. Sat 8/4/01 * 1:38 PM I added a message board to the home page, and I also brought back the counter (which reads "Hits since 1/1/99" for now). I just wrote the "What About Bluffcosm?" piece below. I think I made some progress in planning the future of Obliviana. I gotta keep movin'! (see OsoaWeek issues 358-364, the "The Blufftoon Report). 7/28/01 -- Obliviana Phase Two begins, which a focus on Stormjaunting and 209 and all that. Bluffcosm continues on, but not as the main focus. Okay. So there's the timeline of recent Bluffcosm history. Bluffcosm started "broadcasting" in March of 2000. Since that time, it has become more and more important to me. In January 2001, I started carrying a tape recorder around with me everywhere I went. In February 2001, I shifted the focus on my website from Obliviana to Bluffcosm. And things were going really well for Bluffcosm. I was working constantly on the production of Blufftoons. Then came... June... About 2 months ago, in June, I started charting a new course for Obliviana and Bluffcosm and everything. This period of development pretty much precluded production work in Bluffcosm... though I did record three pieces, all of which I have yet to finish producing. On July 19, at about 7:30 PM, I came to the realization that I had to focus my efforts on Stormjaunting and 209 and all that. And then, a little over a week later, I launched Obliviana Phase 2. Now, in that 2-month development period, I was faced with the issue of making Obliviana into something successful. See, even though I had succeeded in doing a great amount of awesome production work in Bluffcosm, I was not able to get anyone interested in it. I had all this great material, and no audience. And at the beginning of June, the pressure of promotion was upon me. I did not feel like continuing on with constant production without any promotion. My main idea in the development process of June and July was to shift Obliviana to being 100% audio -- essentially, making everything that had been in Obliviana a part of Bluffcosm, as opposed to Bluffcosm just being one "division" of Obliviana. I even planned on shifting OsoaWeek into an audio-only format. I was excited about the idea of Bluffcosm being "The New Computerized Audio Entertainment". And I am STILL excited by the idea. But I decided to move in a different direction. I decided that the word "Obliviana" would refer to the 209/Stormjaunting thing, and that the supernatural practice of Obliviana would be my central focus. I came to this decision because of several factors. First of all, I have been working on the "Vision of Obliviana" since the Fall of 1987. I finally gave up on this vision in December 2000, because I could not find the "Keystone Idea" that would bring all the disparate elements of Obliviana. Then, just a few weeks ago, it all became clear to me... 209 is the key. And as soon as I realized it, I was 100% sure it was the Keystone Idea. On July 28, 2001, Obliviana Super Occult Amusement completed its seventh year. I felt that if I really and truly gave up on the vision of Obliviana after 7 years, it would be lost... I would not get back to it. I actually had this thought a few days before the July 19 realization about 209. Obliviana Super Occult Amusement began on July 28, 1994... and at that point I had been working on the vision for about 7 years, from Fall 1987! So... if you're still with me through that confusion romp through my psyche... that brings us to the current situation... and specifically, where Bluffcosm is at. Well, let's look back to earlier last month... an idea I had on July 4... to have "checklist"-type documents that could be printed out... listing Blufftoons... combined with 209... Yeah, this is pretty confusing... Anyway, the problem is that I need to motivate people to listen to Bluffcosm. One possible answer was this checklist idea. This also involved Fonosta Device and Fonosta Glyphs... and idea that I still am planning to implement. The idea is that you accomplish certain Dashic Deeds to get a certain Fonosta Glyphs. So... Bluffcosm would benfit from this system, since without it, it is a matter of traditional promotion, which is very tough without a lot of money. And... as far as the audio-centric idea, I think that Obliviana (the 209 thing) could benefit from an audio format, as soon as technology advances a little. So I think there is some common ground between Obliviana and Bluffcosm moving forward... Now, I want to make it clear that Bluffcosm is a part of Obliviana Super Occult Amusement. I am going to be promoting "Obliviana Super Occult Amusement". But I could certainly move it in an audio direction. Another aspect here is the idea of "Jauntrecord"... people tape recording their Stormjaunts... to be played in audio in Obliviana/Bluffcosm... I think that there would even be the possibility of talking to people "live", during Stormjaunts. So, the situation is not the dreary "I can work on Bluffcosm only when I have time away from Obliviana." It's not like that. Obliviana Super Occult Amusement is a single, wonderful, complex idea, that incorporates many things. Now, as far as the near future... I do have very limited time... but I will work toward my goals... and I will work on an August 2001 Wave of Blufftoons! ***** ------------------- SUPERIOR REVIEW ----------- SUPERIOR 366 Leap Year New Year's Eve. 365-------------------OSOAWEEK Ezine of Obliviana Super Occult Amusement Issue 365, 7/28/01 (Book 29, No. 1 / Tarb 15337 / Year 8) by Frank Edward Nora, Lord of Obliviana ----------- ------------------- LORD OF OBLIVIANA ----------- Sat 7/28/01 * 10:32 AM Happy Obliviana Day! It's the 209th day of 2001, the 21st Century, and the Third Millennium! Today begins Obliviana Phase Two, and also begins Obliviana Year 8. This is a major change in Obliviana. First of all, the definition of "Obliviana" has been changed a little. Now, "Obliviana" refers to the whole 209/Stormjaunting thing. "Obliviana Super Occult Amusement" is the name of the company and the overall endeavor, and it will be used instead of "Obliviana.com" as the overall name. There a few changes in OsoaWeek. The line in the masthead "Ezine of Obliviana" has been changed to "Ezine of Obliviana Super Occult Amusement". And "The Bluffcosm Report" has been changed to "The Obliviana Report". The "Bluffcosm-centric" Obliviana website lasted from 2/25/01 to 7/27/01. I really wanted to focus exclusively on Bluffcosm and audio... but over the past few weeks I came to the conclusion that I should focus on bringing 209 and Stormjaunting to the world. Bluffcosm will continue... it just won't be the main thing. Now, today I will decide where I'm gonna be "putting" OsoaWeek. OsoaWeek is all online, but scattered. Issues 1 thru 270 are in Aerie Obliviana. 271 thru 338 are on one huge page, presented in backward order (that is, the newer ones above the older ones). 339 to 353 are in another page in backward order. 354 to 364 are done, but haven't been configured for the web yet. And then there's this issue. So what am I gonna do about this messy situation? Well, the answer is clearly that I have to update Aerie Obliviana with OsoaWeek up to 364. I'll do this at some point in the next few months... 10:55 AM One thing I was considering was to change OsoaWeek into audio format, starting with this issue. See, before I decided to make Obliviana 209-centric, I was thinking of making it pure audio. So, if I didn't come up with the whole new 209 direction, you might have been listening to this issue instead of reading it. The Obliviana website is changing. I'm using the "Thinkfang.com" web design as the basis of the new Obliviana.com. Thinkfang.com was a site I developed in November 2000, and which didn't really go anywhere. So... like I mentioned before... the new goal of Obliviana is to get people into 209 and Stormjaunting. In "The Obliviana Report" I'll be detailing my efforts in this direction. I think that I will probably also include "The Bluffcosm Report" from time to time... I still have mixed feelings about how this new 209-centric Obliviana impacts the state of Bluffcosm... but I have made my decisions, and I have to move forward with them. Now, yet another possible direction today could have marked the beginning of was the "suspension" of Obliviana, so that I could work on making Severe Repair into a series of novels. It would have been, essentially, the "end" of Obliviana, with me focusing on one aspect, "Severe Repair", which has the most potential for actually becoming successful and making money. Yeah... Bluffcosm is my first love in Obliviana... but it doesn't have much "commercial" potential at this point. Severe Repair does have more commercial potential... but what about the path I have chosen? Well, I do think that this new direction does indeed have considerable commercial potential. I think that people will be interesting in Stormjaunting. And I think that I could write book about Obliviana... and have them published... So, just to make things clear, from now on, when I say "Obliviana", I am referring to the whole 209 / Stormjaunting thing. The other stuff, like Bluffcosm and Severe Repair, are still a part of Obliviana... but Obliviana is now primarily the "supernatural" side. 11:10 AM This whole "209 thing", this whole new direction... I feel that it is the right thing for me to do. As soon as I came to the realization about it on July 19, a week and 2 days ago, I instantly knew that it was KIVO, it was the "Keystone Idea of the VIsion of Obliviana" that I had been questing after fruitlessly for so many years. Last December, I decided to give up on the quest for KIVO, because I didn't think I'd ever get it, and I was tired of waiting for it; I just wanted to move forward with some of my creative projects. But now that I have KIVO, I feel that I should pursue it, because otherwise I would be kind of trashing all the work I have done up to now toward the Vision of Obliviana. So, it is with some reluctance that I have embarked on Obliviana Phase Two. But I do think that it is the right thing to do. Now, if you look at the history of Obliviana, I think it would seem obvious that centering the project on 209 was the answer. So why did it take me so long to realize it? Well, I think there was definitely some kind of mental block involved. That, and the fact that I would really rather just do creative entertainment stuff than be the guy who brings a new occult system to the world. It's funny. Over the past month or two, events have occurred that have "pushed" me into making the 209 decision. This makes me think that perhaps this was "meant to be"... but I don't know. I truly believe that 209 is a wonderful thing, and that it is a good thing to introduce it to the world. And I do intend to make a strong effort to promote it. But, if I do try my hardest and people don't respond, I think that... well, I'll have to make a decision. Do I keep on trying, or do I give up on 209 and go back to Bluffcosm and Severe Repair and all the things that I really feel like doing? Well, I'm not abandoning Bluffcosm or Severe Repair or anything... I'm just making 209 the priority for the time being. I am happy that I am continuing the Obliviana project... but I am anxious to see results... Well, I have a lot more stuff to do today. The new site has to up and running before midnight! So I gotta get moving! Get all Obliviana. ------------------- THE OBLIVIANA REPORT ----------- ***** PLAN OF ACTION FOR OBLIVIANA PHASE TWO 7/28/01 by Frank Edward Nora, Lord of Obliviana Today is Obliviana Day 2001, and I have established a new direction for Obliviana: to get people into 209 and Stormjaunting! From now on, the word "Obliviana" will mean "209, Stormjaunting, Dashic Deeds, Thinkfang, etc.". "Obliviana Super Occult Amusement" is the name of the company, the project, the vision. "Obliviana.com" will no longer be the overall name of the project, but it will still be used to direct people to the website, and it will still be the name of the website. In the new Obliviana, the central goal is to get people into the supernatural side. The entertainment side is still going to continue, but it will not be the priority. Here is a possible scenario. People get into Obliviana: 209, Stormjaunting, Dashic Deeds, Thinkfang, etc. This will create an audience for the entertainment side... it will all work together... In fact, the entertainment side (Bluffcosm, Severe Repair, Zope, Superior, etc.) can be incorporated into the "Dashic Deeds" element of Obliviana (formerly called "Friction Enhancer"). As far as promoting Obliviana, I plan on being much more active in this aspect than I have in the past. Since I have very little money to use in promotion, I plan on using the Internet to its fullest in terms of getting free promotion. I know that there are a lot of new age / Wicca / occult sites out there... and I want them all to know about Obliviana! And one major aspect of Obliviana is going to be that PDF files will be made available that people can print out on their color inkjet printers. These printouts will form the basis of the practice of the system. The name of the project, "Obliviana Super Occult Amusement", is great promotion in and of itself. I think that a lot of people will want to look further into a thing called "Obliviana Super Occult Amusement". I want to constantly move toward getting more people into Obliviana, and making Obliviana better and better. I gotta keep movin'! ***** ------------------- SUPERIOR REVIEW ----------- SUPERIOR 365 I gotta say it--"The Superior-A-Day Desk Calendar"--new for Christmas. Yes, you too can experience a brand new Superior each and every day of your life--what a way to wake up and face the day! And you know what? If this is a non-Leap-Year, this is December 31, New Year's Eve! If it IS a Leap Year, this is what I used to call "New Year's Eve EVE" as a kid! Kind of like "Christmas Eve EVE"! (December 23). Of course, if it's 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012, 2016, 2020, 2024, 2028, 2032, etc.--you got one more Superior to go! By the way, and this may be totally fallacious information, I remember in Astronomy class in college that there wasn't gonna be a Leap Year in 2000. Is this like possibly true? E-mail me with the answer! (((From OsoaWeek066--10/27/95))) ***** Well, it's a novelty Superior. And... it... kind of sucks. And, if there ever is a Superior-A-Day Desk Calendar, this one will definitely not be included! I want freedom. Seasonal products in the drug store, a sense of urgency. The sad state of computing, where has the coolness gone. ------------------- END -----------
